Sirius or XM???

Tough Choice.

XM has a couple million more subscribers than Sirius. Both are growing at about the same rate. Porsche makes XM available. BMW uses Sirius. Howard Stern is on Sirius, (and not doing so well I hear, but I don't listen to him).

When I'm out of town and rent a car, and Hertz wants to be nice to me, their cars have Sirius. That's my only experience with it. I bought an Alpine unit for my Porsche a couple years ago; I didn't buy the XM upgrade.

You've gotta decide on this one....

How much does the the dealer pay for the monthly fees for sirius subscription? And does the deck of the XM or Sirius cost more for the buyer to have, even when they don't want that options?

The dealer doesn't pay for the XM or Sirius subscription; you need to pick up that charge if you subscribe. It's about $10 per month.

If you are buying higher end cars, you're pretty much stuck paying for the unit that comes in the car, and it most likely is XM or Sirius capable. For lower end models, I suspect you get a base head unit, and if you want XM or Sirius, you pay an option charge to the dealer to get that satellite capable unit.

Talk to your local dealer for details. I specialize in 2001-2004 used cars, and with satellite radio being a bit more newly adopted by the manufacturers, I'm less familiar with your options and prices. If you came to me wanting XM or Sirius, I'd be going aftermarket, usually Alpine, to provide you the solution.

I think that it is a rip off to have to pay a monthly fee for satellite radio. Because we have to pay for the system, there shouldn't be a monthly fee. It should be apart of the cost or the dealer should absorb the cost. As for Stern; he is boring and a wastse of air time. I can't believe the stuff he says.

Personally, I am an XM fan. I do believe that satellite radio was the best thing ever but I love the options that XM provides over Sirius at this point. If you are interested in making a satellite stereo purchase you should check out both systems over the internet first to see who sparks your interest, and their is also the monthly charge.Currently, I am paying $24.00 for XM with a one year sub. The longer the sub. the cheaper the monthly payment. I am unaware of the monthly charge for Sirius.Good luck and Happy Listening.
