How to Know if a Vehicle has been in a Flood???

Well, there's no SURE way to know. BUT, a first check would be to run a Carfax to see where the vehicle came from. If it was in Louisiana around the time of the Katrina flooding, Carfax gives a warning note in the vehicle details.

Secondly, look for rust in strange places around the body of the car. Engine compartment, trunk, etc. Rust around sheet metal screws would be obvious.

Lasty, stick your nose right up against the a/c vents on the dash. If you get a musty smell, you might get suspicious about where the vehicle came from.

This is very good information. It is weird, but me and my friends have all purchased or is in the process of purchasing a new vehicle. One of my friends found a really good deal on a car that was 2 years old and all it had was 10,000 miles. I told her she needed to make sure it was not in a flood, because it could cause problems in the long run for her. We ran a carfax report and the vehicle was a company vehicle. So, she ended up purchasing the car.
