Running on Empty...
No surprise, folks... A new Consumer Reports funded survey indicates that gas mileage is now the top factor (27%) people are seeking in the purchase of a new car. This is followed by reliability (25%), purchase price (14%) and safety features (12%). That's why I'm selling more Toyota Echo's and Tacoma's, for all the above reasons, though you'll pay a little more than you pay for a Ford.

As a European (which mean paying high gas prices at the pump for years) it is very important to me to find a vehicle that has great gas mileage. I bought a Toyota Corolla 5 years ago, the car was a little more expensive then a Ford, but the gas mileage is WAY better. As long as you keep the car maintained and follow some simple rules on how to maintain great gas mileage, a Toyota is a great money saver.
Gas prices have made a big impact on my wallet. When I started to go to college in 2000, I bought a 1997 Geo Metro. I was spending $10.00/wk. Now I am driving the family van since my dad now drives the Geo to work. I spend an average of $24.00/wk. That is a big difference. I was spending alot more when the prices were way up. I did not get out the house if it was not necessary. I am so happy that they are actually going down now.
