Fuel Economy Tip #2
Check your tire pressures monthly. That's about once every 6 trips to the gas station. You'll save fuel, and probably even get a few more weeks or months of tire wear. The correct tire pressures should be in your owners manual, NOT on the tire.

Underinflated tires are an overlooked safety issue as well. Tire failures and accidents can be directly related to inappropriately inflated tires. The next time you are driving, take note of how many vehicle's tires are low (it is easy to spot when driving behind someone). I'm glad to see your information as it applies to saving gas. With gas prices so high, if readers inflate tires appropriately for this reason only, they will unknowingly be saving lives as well.
Underinflated tires for high mileage drivers may be the tire companies' best friend. With newer cars and better roads, underinflation causes high excess wear on both outer edges. Of course, this could pale in light fuel saving with $3 a gallon gas or higher.
